Rules

  1. This department is open to exhibitors 21 years of age and older, as of the date of the first of the month the Fair.
  2. Entrants are limited to one entry in each subclass and a maximum of 200 total entries. Entry fee is $10 per subclass. Please note the additional information below is required regarding styles.
  3. Beers produced in a commercially licensed facility are ineligible.
  4. Each beer entry must consist of two (2) bottles or cans. Beer entries must be in bottles or cans that hold a minimum of 10 ounces in volume, and that will fit in a standard case box slot. The measurements of a standard case box slot are 2.75 inches long x 2.75 inches wide x 9 inches high. Bottles or cans may be of any color and must be free of ink, paint, or paper labeling other that competition entry label. Obliterate any lettering or graphics on the cap with a permanent black marker. Bottles with Grolsch-type swing tops and 22 oz. Bomber bottles are not allowed. Corked bottles and odd-shaped bottles are acceptable as long as they fit in a standard case box slot. Bottles with raised lettering are acceptable if they fit in a standard case box slot. Bottles not meeting the above requirements will be disqualified.
  5. Once you have completed your entries through the online entry system, you will print your completed Bottle ID form for each entry from the website. The Bottle ID form will be located under the Entry Tag button. Click the Entry Tag button and click Print. Every bottle or can must have a completed Bottle ID form affixed with a rubber band. Do not glue or tape these labels to the bottles.
  6. Homebrew beer entries should be brought to Cedar City Brewing, 112 Public Square, Lebanon, TN 37087 between July 7 and July 23, 11 AM & 5 PM. The closed judging will be July 26, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Best of Show selection will immediately follow judging. Winners will be recognized online after start of the Fair and ribbons can be picked up in the State Perishable building on August 24 at noon. Ribbons not picked up will be mailed.
  7. Shipping/Packaging: Entries may be shipped via UPS or Federal Express. (Do not use U.S. mail) All postage must be prepaid. Ship to: Cedar City Brewing, 112 Public Square, Lebanon, TN 37087. It is suggested that each bottle be wrapped in a section of newspaper or bubble wrap and placed in a six-pack carrier. Fill all the voids with wadded newspaper or packing material. Line shipping box with a plastic trash bag. Completely fill box with packing material to prevent rattling of bottles. Label box "This End Up" and "Fragile". Package must arrive by 5 PM on July 23. Check with your local homebrew club or shop to see if they will be collecting and transporting beers to the competition.
  8. On August 24th awards will be released from noon to 2:00 pm at the State Perishable Building. Any awards not claimed by 2:00 pm will be mailed to the competitor.
  9. All entries will become the property of the Wilson County - Tennessee State Fair and will not be released after the exhibit.
  10. Entries will be judged according to the 2021 revision of the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) beer style guidelines. Categories are designated by class numbers, and subcategories are designated with letters. These can be found at www.BJCP.org.
  11. Beers are judged according to the style guidelines for the category and subcategory as listed by the entrant. Directors, judges, or registrars will not classify or reclassify any entry under any circumstances. All entries requiring additional information, according to the BJCP guidelines, will be noted in the registration process, and the brewer is responsible for providing this information on their entry when registering. The superintendent reserves the right to combine classes to created a flight for judging and prize purposes.
  12. First, second, and third places will be awarded to the top three eligible entries in each judging flight. The first-place winner in each judging flight will advance to the home brew beer "Best of Show" round. In addition, no more than two honorable mention ribbons will be awarded per judging flight, if so deemed by the judges.
  13. Tennessee Homebrew of the Year: All beers brewed by a Tennessee resident will be judged according to the relative merits within their class and category.
    1. Must be a TN resident at the time of entry
    2. Must place 1st in a category
    3. If no TN residents have placed 1st in any category, the TN homebrewer of the year panel will consider entries that have placed lower.
