Tennessee 4-H Scarecrow Contest

Scarecrow Contest Information

Tennessee 4-H Youth Development is excited to announce an inaugural Scarecrow Contest the The Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair. County 4-H clubs are invited to enter one scarecrow into the contest. Only one entry per county.

Award Information

There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awarded within each region (Western, Central, and Eastern)
1st place in each region will receive $100 for their 4-H club and a sign to hang up into your county office
2nd place in each region will receive $75 for their 4-H club
3rd place in each region will receive $50 for their 4-H club

Drop Off Dates

Central: August 7-14th
Eastern: August 8, 2023
Western: August 9, 2023

Drop Off Locations

Central Region:
Scarecrows can be sent to the state fair with the county ANR agents. Please coordinate with your county ANR extension agent. Scarecrows can also be dropped off at any region event in the Central Region between August 7-14.

Scarecrow Contest Rules

  1. Only one entry per county! (Work together as a team)
  2. This contest is only open to 4-H club members
  3. Must have county name visible
  4. 4-H emblem must be visible and follow 4-H Clover Guidelines (see below)
  5. Corn should be incorporated into the design for 2023
  6. Scarecrows must be self-supporting
  7. Scarecrows can be no bigger than 5ft tall, 2ft wide and 2.5ft in diameter
  8. Scarecrows must weigh under 10 pounds
  9. Any material can be used to make your scarecrow
All entries must attach the information sheet found below.

Pick up information: If you do not want to pick up your scarecrow consider donating it to Fiddlers Grove Historic Village that is located at the fairgrounds.

4-H Clover Guidelines

  • Do not place text or other images over or on top of the 4-H emblem
  • No photo, drawing, symbol, word, or other figure or object
  • The official colors should not be altered
  • The clover stem should turn to the right only
  • The clover should not be slanted
